Senior Friendship Centers have been making the journey of aging easier and kinder since the early 1970’s. They are a non-profit organization located in Southwest Florida with many services dedicated to meeting the needs of those over 50. “Our Mission: To promote health, dignity and quality of life throughout the journey of aging.” Here’s what they have to offer:
Adult Day Care
The adult day care services provide a safe environment for loved ones where they can have fun and participate in activities. Some of these activities include exercise, current events, games, singing, and dancing entertainment.
Balance Movement Classes
This program offers exercise essential to the aging process. Did you know that 90% of the more than 352,00 hip fractures in the United States each year are the result of a fall? Balance movement classes strengthen the core and can prevent falls and serious injury.
Caregiver Resource Center
The resource center provides caregivers with educational programs, support, and information on caring for a loved one.
Healthy Aging Medical & Dental Clinics
Retired and volunteer physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and health professionals staff the Senior Friendship Center clinics, providing care in Sarasota, Collier, and Lee counties.
Exercise & Fitness
You’d be surprised at the exercise programs offered at the larger locations in Sarasota and Venice. Fitness programs include beginners tap dance, balance movement, ballroom dance, senior fitness, yoga, chair yoga, line dancing, hula dancing, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, senior-friendly aerobics, yogarobics, Latin dance, tappercise, and video fitness.
Friendship at Home
This great program pairs volunteers with isolated seniors according to interests and schedules.
Seniors 60+ can enjoy a friendly environment, nutritious food and games at the Friendship Cafes.
Home Delivered Meals
Meals delivered right to the home ensure seniors are getting proper nutrition when they are unable to cook for themselves. This program is ideal for caregivers with a loved one living a distance away.
The Lifelong Learning program allows seniors to “feed their mind” through various programs, one of them being the Road Scholar. The Road Scholar program teaches adults 40+ what makes this area an attraction for people around the world.
Designed for caregivers to support each other through the difficult challenges that come with being a caregiver. There are several different groups available throughout the area.
“People Helping People” has been the foundation of Senior Friendship Centers since the beginning with volunteer opportunities in every facet of the organization. Become part of the SFC FAMILY and help improve the quality of life for older adults. Here’s what you can do:
